Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 Directory Ronald Roderos said the number of crimes reported in the region has continuously decrease for the past two years due to the intensified police visibility and random checkpoints.

Roderos said that since 2006 the number of crimes reported in the region has consistently drop as police are able to curb crimes through police visibility and the regular and random checkpoints.

“For the 4th quarter last year we have tabulated a total of 1,928 crimes, while last 2006 we have recorded 2,525,” he said.

He also said that for this year they are optimistic that the trend will continue to decrease because they had doubled their effort in securing peace and order in the region.

“With the presence of our recently launched  “taskforce motorsiklo” together with our other initiatives in collaboration with the different local government units in the region, we are expecting continuous decrease of crime volume,” Roderos added.

He further added that since the start of the 4th quarter this year they have recorded only 1,085 crime incidents.

However, he pointed out that 1,085 is not yet final as the yuletide season is coming and crime incidents are expected to increase during this season.

“With the coming of the Christmas season crime incidents are expected to increase, however, the public has nothing to worry because we will do our best to secure them,” he said.

Roderos also revealed that inline with their preparation for the holidays, no police personnel are allowed to take a vacation leave.

“I had already instructed my men not to have a vacation leave this coming Christmas season because their application will not be approved except for those who are applying for a sick leave,” he said.

Meanwhile, Roderos urged the public to be extra careful with the coming of Christmas because this is also the season where petty crimes are expected to increase.

“Providing security for the community is not our sole job, we need the cooperation of the public, that is why we are urging them to be vigilant and alert,” he disclosed. #
