Shooting mars peaceful observance of All Saints’ Day, All Souls’ Day in Cebu

CEBU CITY – Three armed men onboard a motorcycle where killed during a shootout with policemen who were manning a checkpoint along MJ Cuenco Avenue yesterday afternoon, turning the otherwise peaceful observance of All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day in Cebu bloody.

The three fatalities, whose identities have not been known until today, allegedly started firing at policemen as they were approaching a checkpoint past 3 p.m. yesterday. The policemen, who were members of the Task Force Motorcycle, a special team that was formed to go after motorcycle-riding criminals, fired back, killing the three gunmen.

A temporary driver’s license, an identification card, three pieces of 2×2 ID pictures and a syringe that is believed to be used for drugs were found at the compartment under the seat of the motorcycle.

Two revolvers were also found in the possession of the dead suspects. Police also recovered 18 empty shell and two deformed slugs. Policemen also noted that the three men bore tattoos on their arms.

Sr. Inspector David Señor, chief of the Waterfront Police Station, strongly believes that the three men were robbers as the area where they were shot at is a known hot spot for robbery incidents.
